Alex Carlin

Associate Consultant

Alex Carlin is a graduate of the University of Virginia and grew up in Leesburg. He is an expert in business development, strategic consulting, and communications, specifically copywriting and editing.

He comes to CI from a position at Oracle, where he provides strategy consultation to emerging business owners in a variety of industries. This experience helped him build the skills to truly understand systems, business plans, and niche market challenges while engaging effectively with leaders to make the changes necessary for organizational progress.

Dynamism Through Balance

In his free time, Alex practices yoga, surfs, skates, and plays ice hockey. Why? “I purposefully seek out hobbies and interests which challenge my ability to balance,” he says. “l try to find physical and spiritual harmony in the effort and instability. I’ve learned a lot about myself through my failures; but I’m learning even more about how to adjust and be dynamic for the future.”

Alex Carlin in the Spotlight

A true team player

Alex Carlin learned the value of being part of a team at an early age.
The fourth of five brothers, Alex understood the importance of relationships and how to put the values of the team ahead of your own.

“Having people in your life who you don’t want to let down, has been my motivating factor,” Alex said of his tight knit family. “Having that group around, and understanding the sacrifices made for me, is why I always want to be sure I’m pulling my weight and doing the right thing. That same mindset applies to my ‘work family’ too.”

A life-long sports lover and high school quarterback, Alex carries the lessons he learned from his experience playing team sports to his professional life. While his sports playing days are now with his weekend hockey league, these experiences have allowed Alex to have a deeper understanding of the way relationships can influence and empower an organization.

“My end goal remains wanting to create truly valuable relationships with the people that are around me in my inner circle and those I engage with,” he said. “That takes a lot of work, and there’s a lot attached to actually practicing it.”

Embracing Challenges

A native of Leesburg, Virginia, Alex has always had a knack for challenging himself.
A graduate of the University of Virginia, Alex started working in sales with the tech giant Oracle right out of college and moved to Austin, Texas. However, he didn’t feel his position aligned with the direction he wanted his career to progress, so Alex began a journey of self-discovery.

Searching for ways he could continue challenging himself with fulfilling work, Alex found life-changing insight in the book, Shambala: The Sacred Path of The Warrior. Through the book’s teachings and other practices focused on growing his spiritual life, he learned it was critically important to better understand himself in order to create a lasting impact in his field and the larger cosmos.

“In the beginning stages of my career from the end of college into the ‘real world’, I learned that I needed to take better inventory of myself, in order to be of real service to others” he said. “I think my path to CI came from the need to map a career around who I am, rather than trying to shift and change who I am, to fit a career.

A Spirit of Continuous Growth

After joining CI International in 2023, Alex has taken on the role of copywriting documents and resources that help organizations strengthen their human capital and human resources. Using the skills he gained earning his bachelor’s degree in English, Alex guides leaders toward becoming more effective communicators by providing words and language to better reflect the message they want to share.

“We deal a lot with competencies and behavioral traits that anybody in any organization can aspire to and work toward, and we help put those kinds of critical learnings into real life terms,” Alex said.

Alex stressed that while he enjoys working with leaders from across the country, it’s the relationships he’s built with his colleagues working together at CI International that he values most of all.

“What I really like about it is the relationships with my teammates I’ve created internally and the spirit of continuous growth CI values so much,” he said. “I think it’s something that CI really holds dear, and I see it exemplified nearly everyday. Everyone has bought into the fact that we are here to grow and to get better however small it may be today.”
